Everything that happened at Mon Studios for the past month

With the rebrand of our main title just around the corner, we're thrilled to offer some sneak peeks into what Mon Studios has been working on for the past month, as well as what we're excited about as a team.

Let's take a look at what our team has accomplished over the past month:

Development Update

Battle System

The development of the battle system is now complete, and our team is transitioning to testing both the wild battles and NPC battles.

Each system offers unique perks and features, ensuring a fresh experience each time, as opposed to a single, repetitive mechanic.

Focusing on the wild battles system, players can encounter wild monsters in various terrains such as tall grass, deep mud, and deep waters. Unlike random encounters, these monsters are visible to the player, making the wild battles more engaging and less frustrating.

The spawns remain random and instance-based for each player, refreshing every 3 minutes (subject to testing).

This aligns with our first pillar of game design: "Every adventure is different."

Turning to NPC battles, each NPC features a unique squad of monsters that reflects their personality.

Additionally, each NPC battle kicks off with a custom intro, a feature that extends to player-vs-player battles as well. Thus making every battle feel personalized.

Cutscenes

The art team is committed to meaningful storytelling through interactions and visual cues, rather than relying solely on text. A major component of this approach is the use of cutscenes.

The game will include unique cutscenes for each character's background story, as well as special events and story milestones.

The game offers three starting characters to choose from. Players select one main character, while the other two become sidekicks for the entire storyline, creating a unique experience in each playthrough.

Each character comes with a specific attribute buff that aids players in various ways, depending on their interests. While this selection is final and can't be changed later in the game, players can equip different character skins to access similar or even superior buffs.

User Interfaces

The development team has been consistently working on updates for the user interfaces in the game.

Focusing on the chat system, this interface will allow players to chat with each other in different channels.

  1. Local: Chat with users in the current map
  2. Global: Chat with users in the current server
  3. Trade: Initiate 1-to-1 trades
  4. Whispers: Have 1-to-1 conversations with friends
  5. Battle: Receive updates on the active battle

Not only this, but the chat system also allows you to choose between different languages allowing you to converse freely. In future updates, we plan to introduce proximity audio through A/B testing with a smaller user group.

Focusing next on events, this interface will allow players to view all the active events, available tasks and claim rewards from these events.

The game will feature a series of repetitive events that take place every month, in addition to 6-12 external integration events and 3 story events every season.

This allows for a huge amount of extra content available to the players, in-addition to the normal 2-3 hours of story content available every season.

Our team's focus while creating these events is on quality over quantity, with each event offering different kinds of limited time rewards, and new experiences + quests for players to play with.

Next up, our focus is on conversations. Adding more emphasis on emotions and NPC feedback, each character you converse with, will show emotions in their character art, based on the dialogue being said.

These conversations can be affected by the charisma attribute, higher stat allows you to access hidden options in the conversation that might lead to more beneficial results such as allowing you to skip a battle, or get extra rewards.

Additionally, important mentions such as locations, tasks or names of characters are highlighted in the conversation for faster reading and easier understanding by the players.
